How do you choose just a few BEST LOCATIONS for family or senior photos in Newport, RI, when everywhere you look is simply stunning?
Newport, RI has been a hot tourist spot since the gilded age. It is full of charm, beauty, history, and it has some of the best spots for family, couples, or senior photos. This gorgeous island is a clients’ favorite, and I can’t resist shooting there at any season – yes, even winter! Everywhere you look has a special touch, but I figured I’d put together a list of my true favorites! Next time you’re in Newport, check out these locations… you’ll be glad you did!

Best Newport Location #1: Thames Street
Definitely one of the BEST LOCATIONS in Newport, RI! Filled with many shops, cafes, restaurants, and boutiques lined up alongside the famous Thames Street, it is a perfect spot for lifestyle photos, engagement sessions, or family photoshoots. Even with the summer’s hustle and bustle, this street provides several locations for beautiful photos. One of my favorite places to start is at Queen Ann Square, where the beautiful lawns and cobblestones offer a preview of the majestic Trinity Church. Many side streets that intersect Thames Street offer historical homes for really pretty backgrounds, and some even resemble the architecture seen in places like Charleston SC, or Savannah GA.
Eisenhower Park, right off Thames St, is also an amazing location. The way the afternoon light hits the side of the park, the buildings along Washington Square, and even the Newport Superior Court building offer impressive backdrops for your photos that scream beauty.
Best Newport Location #2: Ocean Drive
Ocean Drive is one of those roads that make your jaw drop at every turn. Mansions and coves dominate the stretch where some of the most Instagramable pictures can be achieved. There’s no easy place to park around here, but stopping on the shoulder is allowed for a few minutes. And a few minutes is all you need to capture its beauty!
Best Newport Location #3: Cliff Walk
The Cliff Walk is a multi-purpose attraction: you can get a great workout by walking the 3.5-mile stretch while taking some of the most breathtaking photos in Newport. You can enjoy the ocean views and feel like you’re almost part of the landscape while admiring the mansions’ lawns. Parking is available at Easton Beach, and also at some of the side roads that end up at the Cliffwalk (like Ruggles Ave). It is very busy in the spring, summer, and fall, so the best time for pictures is by sunrise – except for the occasional jogger, you will feel like you have the place to yourself!
There are several spots along the Cliffwalk for the best photos, like Ochre Point or near the Ruggles Ave access point, but you honestly can’t go wrong with any location along this amazing path!
Best Newport Location #4: Bellevue Avenue
Home of the most spectacular Newport Mansions and brick-lined sidewalks, Bellevue Avenue offers endless possibilities for amazing photos! Take a walk by the Tennis Hall of Fame or stroll by the mansions: every block on Bellvue is beautiful and charming. The iron fences along the way that frame some of the grandest lawns and homes, are perfect for romantic or chic shots.
Best Newport Location #5: Brenton Point State Park
Besides spending a relaxed summer afternoon watching kites fly, Brenton Point is an outstanding location for photos! It truly offers one of the best ocean views and spectacular sunsets. Pack a picnic, pack your camera and enjoy one of Newport’s finest locations!
