Providence, Rhode Island, is a gem when it comes to photo locations. Next time you’re looking for the perfect place for your portrait session, look no further than Downtown Providence! As much I love nature, parks and the ocean (you can see what I mean when you look at my portfolio), our beautiful state capital has so many gorgeous corners, that within walking distance you can go from an industrial background, to a historic look, to water views. Each season brings a different kind of feel to each one of these locations, but the orange and red buildings, the glass structures and the ever changing trees always give my photos a wow factor that I cannot replicate anywhere else. Here are my top 5 Perfect Providence Locations for Photos:

1. India Point Park

This cute little park has been a clients’ favorite for over two years! Located in Fox Point, and the beginning of the East Bay Bike Path, this park offers many backgrounds within a few yards. When you’re here, you can’t even tell you’re near downtown Providence, but being part of the Providence River area, its really stunning for photos. Spring, summer and fall have their own magic, as the colors keep changing while the ocean side gives the blue hue that tells you you’re in the Ocean State.

2. Rhode Island State House

It’s hard to argue that Rhode Island State House is a photographer’s dream in regards to background! Built in the late 1800’s, this neoclassical marble structure offers offers such a dreamy backdrop for portraits like headshots, but it’s also the perfect location for stunning portraits (think engagement!) because the columns, stairs, and green spaces gives tons of choices within a few feet from each other. Also, having the tall buildings in the back, with the different colors and heights, makes this place a very colorful location.

I have a special love for this location because it was the place where I took the first professional portraits of my career. My brother was launching his consulting business and needed headshots. I needed practice. So together we decided on this place because of the professional look he wanted. I gotta say that after this session I knew photography was for me 🙂

3. College Hill

The College Hill area houses the Brown University and Rhode Island School of Design campus, and most houses in the area are a gorgeous display of architecture from the 18th century. In this area, the sidewalks with iron fences, ivy-covered walls and colorful homes will set the tone for amazing portraits!

I recently discovered the College Hill/Benefit Street area, and I am officially obsessed! This bride from Florida wanted the historic New England look for her engagement session, and needleless to say, she got it!

4. Westminster Street

My first ever engagement session with this sweet couple spiked my love for downtown sessions!

Right in the heart of downtown Providence, this is where they fell in love while attending Johnson & Whales University. This brick-lined street hosts lots of shopping and dining, and the ultra chic and boho look of it in the summer include string lights, flower boxes and the occasional vintage bike. It is also home of the “Superman Building” which in 2019 was named one of the nation’s “most endangered places“… who knew!

5. Waterplace Park

I saved the best for last. This is seriously one of my favorites and I cannot get enough of it! Home of the famous WaterFire, Waterplace park offers lots of beautiful spots alongside its walking paths and restaurants. The Providence Place Mall offers easy parking, and if you have time, you can totally do Waterplace and the state house at the same time!
