I can’t imagine what it must feel like to be a high school senior during these times. But if there’s is something we, adults, have learned from these children is that they are more resilient than we could have ever imagined. Julia may be seeing her teachers and friends through a computer screen, and missing her last homecoming dance, but this is not stopping her from dreaming of the future. Of college. Of big cities. Of Broadway.
Julia and her mom decided that the safest place for her senior photos would be their own home. Shooting at a location that I’m not familiar with can sometimes be a challenge, because I don’t always know what to expect as far as the background and light. When I pulled up and saw the gorgeously manicured landscape and park-like grounds, and then the way the afternoon light softly spread across the lawn, I knew I had hit the photography trifecta: beautiful subject, beautiful light and beautiful location!
I love when girls are ready to have a good time and are able to relax during their session. Julia has experienced professional photography during her dancing years, so I knew this was going to be fun. She made 45 minutes feel like five! She quickly warmed to my camera and her smile fired up! She was on board with all my ideas and made the flow of the session feel like a breeze.
During our session I learned that she is dancer, a singer and a performer. It was incredible to see her go on pointe while keeping her beautiful smile! Her mom, April, was with us during the shoot, and from time to time I’d turn around and see her face glowing with pride. She can’t believe her baby girl is a senior and will be heading off to college in 11 months. It was clear to me that this family has raised an incredibly kind human and I am so excited to follow Julia’s journey. She’ll be attending college for Musical Theater (I checked out her You Tube channel and OH. MY. GOD.)
Julia, you’re an insanely talented young woman. I have no doubt that you’ll do amazing things. Keep making yourself proud. Keep dreaming the good dream. Keep believing that YOU CAN. And when you’re famous you bet I’ll be bragging that it was me who took your senior photos 🙂
